Problem:
Michael contacted us when he noticed grass and weeds growing visibly from his roofline. Living in a beautiful part of Preston surrounded by mature oak and pine trees, his gutters had become a trap for falling debris.
The weight of the damp soil and plant life was causing the guttering to sag, leading to water spilling over the sides. This created a serious damp risk to the structural integrity of his home. Michael was understandably tired of the annual struggle of climbing ladders to clear out the mess.
Solution:
We implemented a comprehensive three-stage overhaul to ensure Michael would never have to worry about his gutters again.
Stage 1: The Deep Clean Matt and the team began by manually removing the “mini garden” from the gutters. We didn’t just clear the straight runs; we ensured every downpipe was flushed and free-flowing, removing years of stubborn silt and pine needles.
Stage 2: Essential Repairs With the debris gone, we identified several joints that had perished under the weight of the clogs. Using Matt’s background in plumbing and maintenance, we resealed the leaking joints and realigned the sagging sections to restore the correct “fall” towards the downpipes.
Stage 3: Permanent Protection To prevent a repeat of the problem, we installed premium gutter guards. These are specifically designed to be compatible with his existing system. They allow heavy Lancashire rain to enter while keeping even the smallest pine needles out.
Challenges:
This Preston property featured particularly steep roof pitches and multiple storeys. This required our team to use specialised safety equipment and staging to ensure the guards were fitted with millimetre precision at height. We took extra care to ensure a tight, uniform fit along the older sections of guttering without penetrating the roof, keeping the shingle warranty fully intact.
Result:
The transformation is clear. The “before” images showed a system on the brink of failure, but the “after” reveals a clean, sleek, and fully protected roofline.
Following a heavy storm shortly after the installation, Michael reported that the system handled the rainfall perfectly with zero overflow. He now enjoys a maintenance-free system and the peace of mind that his home is protected from damp for the long term.
